Introduction
How Your Voicemail Operates
[top]
Your Voiceplus service will
enhance the way you communicate because you can now
send, receive, and retrieve your voice or fax
messages from any touch-tone phone, at any time of the
day or night. Your voicemail system will never
ring busy and will always be answered. Your
callers will never again have trouble communicating
with you.
Your message system can be reached by dialing the
local telephone number that was assigned to you when
your account was activated. Optionally you can
also have the local telephone company forward calls
to your voice mail system so that callers continue
to dial your local telephone number but it would now
be enhanced by the advanced capabilities of your
voice messaging system.
When your callers reach your voicemail system they
will hear a greeting recorded in your voice that
lets them know that they have reached your voicemail
and provides instructions on how to contact you or
leave a message. Standard voicemail accounts
that do not have optional live connect or fax mail
features will simply instruct the caller to leave a
message. In those cases you would instruct the
caller to "...please leave a message at the tone..."
If you have requested message notification, the
voicemail system will contact you after messages are
left. You can be contacted on your pager,
regular telephone, or in some areas by email.
Fax Mail
If you subscribed to the fax mail option (but not
live-connect), then your system will automatically
detect incoming fax tone while the greeting plays.
Live Connect
If you subscribed to the live connect option, your
system can be configured in different ways.
You can elect to have the caller auto-transfer upon
dialing your voicemail account or you could elect to
have a greeting play before the transfer occurs.
Should you elect to have a greeting preface the
transfer, then your service can
play two (2) greetings. The first greeting is the
one callers hear when they dial your number (ex: “Hello,
to speak with me now press 1 or stay on the line and
you'll be connected”). The second greeting is
the greeting callers hear if you don't answer your
line when the call is being connected (ex: "I'm
sorry I missed your call. Please leave a
message at the tone."). During the
transfer your callers can hear either telephone
ringing signals or hold music.
IMPORTANT: Our computer numbers these greetings automatically. When prompted to
select the greeting number you would like to record,
press "9" to record the pre-transfer greeting, or press
"0" to record the leave-message greeting. If you
requested a "day and night" greeting or "selectable"
greeting, enter "2" (this is by request only).
Ask your sales representative if you should tell your callers to press 1 to
connect to you or if they will automatically be
connected.
Live Connect and Fax Mail
If you subscribe to both the live connect and the
fax mail then you would instruct your callers to
"...press one to speak with me now, press 2 to leave
a message, or press the start key on your fax
machine to deliver a fax now..."
Message Delivery by Email (Unified Messaging)
If you subscribe to message delivery by email then
all of your voice (and fax) messages will be
forwarded to your email address. In those
instances, you should never have to call your
voicemail in order to retrieve messages. If
you're traveling or away from your computer, your
messages will still be available over the phone for
up to 3 days.
